Weekend Reading: Microsoft Weekly 13 (Jun 6 – Jun 12)
How’s it going guys? I am back with another Microsoft weekly! In this week we have number of news from the Microsoft. We have a new insider preview build, new features in windows bridge for iOS, new edge extension, Xbox build, GroupMe for Windows 10 and more. So let’s get started.
Project Islandwood updated with new features
As we know that the Microsoft already shut down Project Astoria. And now they are focusing on the Project Islandwood. Project Islandwood is the Windows Bridge for iOS. They are continually updating it this iOS bridge and adding new features. The new update bring number of new features and the enhancement. The update include improved support for several widely-used iOS layout APIs. And also they launched a new repo of open-source sample apps and example code designed to common app scenarios and demonstrate integrating UWP features. And in addition the iOS bridge now offers full support for both NSLayoutAnchor and UILayoutGuide.
Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14361
Dona Sarkar new head of Windows Insider program released a new windows 10 insider preview build for the insider in the fast ring. Insider preview build 14361 come with many new features and bug fixes. Windows Ink improved; ruler is now long enough to span diagonally. And that clear all option finally arrive. Settings app UI improved. The navigation pane is now white in light mode or black in dark mode and also added a small block of color (which is same as the accent color of your profile) to highlight what Settings page. This build is also available for the mobile device. But it didn’t have any new features for mobile. Moving to next story.
With the release of the Windows 10 inside build 14361 the LastPass extension arrived for the Microsoft Edge. LastPass is the first password manager extension supported on Microsoft Edge. The LastPass extension enables quick access to the LastPass password vault within Microsoft Edge. As you browse, LastPass will autofill passwords saved in your vault, and new accounts can promptly be added to the vault without navigating away from the current page. Actually LastPass extension was available for the Windows 10 Insider build 14352. But it would no longer able to install. Learn more about LastPass extension at here.
First big update to Xbox One
Microsoft rolled out the first big update to the Xbox One. This update bring brings Cortana, revamped game collection, and much more. However this is the preview update. If you are insider then you can get it. This preview update finally bring much waited Cortana to the Xbox One as well as a redesigned game collection. They also improved Windows Store, personal activity feed with a better sharing feature. After this update it would be easier to add friends from Facebook.
GroupMe arrives on Windows 10 PCs
Microsoft’s Skype developer bring GoupMe to the Windows 10 PCs. GroupMe app includes all the features you love, so you can goof off with your friends, check in to see what everyone is up to and make plans to hang out right from your desktop. The UI of the app is just awesome. (I was not using this app, but after hearing this news I downloaded it on my PC and I loved it and now I am also using it on mobile too.) If you are not using Windows 10 PC, no problem still you can use the GroupMe app from web.
Amazon removes Windows phone app from Windows Store, no news on a replacement. the app was removed from search and while it remains downloadable via a direct link and current users aren’t affected. Halo 5: Guardians is not coming to Windows 10 PCs. Microsoft spokesperson said to PCGamer in a statement. And Halo Wars 2 is coming soon to Windows 10.
